Free period products are now available across all campuses of Staffordshire University.
To assist staff and students who may face financial constraints, Staffordshire University has initiated a program that offers free tampons and towels. The scheme commenced on Wednesday.
In collaboration with the university, the Students’ Union has played a key role in implementing the provision of free period products.
A spokesperson from the union expressed their excitement and pride as the project is being implemented.
According to a survey conducted by charity Action Aid, it was estimated that one in eight women in Great Britain faced difficulties in purchasing menstrual products.
The government scheme that offers free items to school pupils does not include support for students enrolled in higher education courses.
Due to cost-of-living pressures, Staffordshire University’s student union officers have decided to expand the provision of free period products, which have been available at union venues since 2018 and funded through donations.
Dispensers with Here We Flo products are now accessible on the Stoke, Stafford, and London campuses.
Other educational institutions, such as University College Birmingham, Kings College London, and the University of Westminster, also provide free sanitary products.
