Mirage is a rare Porsche 911 featured in the movie “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.” Specifically, Mirage takes the form of a 964 series Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8, a highly sought-after model known for its scarcity and value. Despite being an unusual choice, Mirage’s character traits align with the choice of this particular Porsche model.
Described as a tough yet compassionate character with a rebellious streak, Mirage plays a central role in the film. Porsche actively collaborated with the production team to bring Mirage to life, and although replica cars were used for most scenes, the authentic Carrera RS 3.8 was employed for sound design.
This collaboration between Porsche and the film’s production team has resulted in an iconic and unforgettable portrayal of Mirage in “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.”
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the latest summer blockbuster, is now in theaters. Set in the 1990s, it introduces the Maximals and showcases the Autobots, led by Mirage, a prominent Porsche 911 Carrera.
Mirage, in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, transforms into a rare 964 series Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8. This unique choice is attributed to Mirage’s character traits, described by Oliver Hoffmann, Head of Marketing Communications at Porsche AG, as a tough yet compassionate individual with occasional rebellious tendencies.
To protect the rare and valuable Porsche Carrera RS 3.8, only 55 of which were produced, five replica picture cars were created for Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. These replicas served various purposes, such as one modified to achieve high-speed reverse driving and another prepared for stunt sequences.
Additional cars were specifically built for close-ups and scenes involving actor interactions with the car, ensuring the original models remained safe from potential damage.
In Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the authentic sound of the Carrera RS 3.8 was utilized for the movie’s sound design. Despite the challenge of sourcing limited production 911 models, Ayesha Coker, Vice President of Marketing of Porsche Cars North America, expressed satisfaction with the outcome and hopes that audiences will appreciate it as well.
The collaboration between the production team and Porsche for “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” was highly involved, particularly in the development of the character Mirage. Irene Trachtenberg, SVP of Worldwide Marketing Partnerships at Paramount, emphasized that this partnership resulted in bringing Autobot Mirage to life in a remarkable and unforgettable manner, adding a unique and iconic element to the movie.
Porsche, in celebration of its 75th anniversary, has actively promoted “Transformers: Rise of the Beasts” on its YouTube channel and through social media platforms. The automaker has also sponsored exhibits and released videos to commemorate this significant milestone in its history.
